50 Percent of Food is Wasted Causing Water, Food and Hunger Crisis, says the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI).

<img class="size-medium wp-image-39" title="Tomatoes - All around the world, 50% of the food is wasted." src="http://greenle.net/news/wp-content/uploads/tomates-tomatoes-rang-line-300x225.jpg" alt="All around the world, 50% of the food is wasted. The target by 2025 would be to cut down wastings by half.

To meet the challenge of feeding growing populations and the global hungry, massive reductions in the amount of food wasted after production are needed. SIWI, FAO and IWMI released on Thursday, August 21, a policy brief “Saving Water: From Field to Fork – Curbing Losses and Wastage in the Food Chain,” that calls on governments to reduce by half, by 2025, the amount of food that is wasted after it is grown and outlines attainable steps for this be achieved.

In the US, for instance, as much as 30 percent of food, worth some USD 48.3 billion, is thrown away. That’s like leaving the tap running and pouring 40 trillion litres of water into the garbage can - enough water to meet the household needs of 500 million people.

Knowing that one pound of wheat needs 250 liters of water to grow, it’s easy to understand how important it is to use what we grow.

The 17 years old spent last summer converting a conventional gas-powered kit car to run on batteries. And it works !

Though Lucas experienced a few surprises during the conversion, his car is highway-ready, capable of travelling 40 miles between charges, at a top speed of 45mph, and heaps of low-end torque.
